This weekend while running errands around town, I was bombarded with people on street corners carrying bright yellow signs-if you live in California, I'm sure you've seen them-the ones that say "Vote yes on Prop 8" and "Prop 8 = Less Government" and "Restore Traditional Marriage", etc. Seems like there were these people everywhere. I've never seen so much enthusiasm-about anything. And that really scares me.
Look, the truth is, this country is sliding down the shitter. We have the worst president in history, a crashing consumer-based economy, global warming, a never-ending, outrageously expensive war, ridiculous taxes to basically pay corporations, crippling dependence on fossil fuels with no solution in sight-oh, except the Republican Party's brilliant idea of "drill more", an upcoming election where one of the serious contenders is a "hockey mom" with no experience to speak of, well, I could go on.
But, what is really getting people out on the streets, what is really riling them up, is freaking gay marriage. THIS is what people care about? This is why our society is shit. Who cares if some guy wants to marry another guy? Seriously. Frightening. Land of the free my ass. Land of media-induced hysteria and corporate groupthink.
